AMP - CPD

Within the training we will explore:

  • The power of music in aiding memory.
  • The link between language and rhythm.
  • Accessible musical activities that everyone can join in with.

Tom Hawthorn is a drummer and educator based in Leeds. He has been working as a professional musician since 2013, when he graduated from Leeds Conservatoire with a 1st class honours in Jazz Performance and received the John Sheerer prize for Drum Kit. As well as performing, Tom is heavily involved in music education and alongside private teaching, Tom has delivered hundreds of workshops, interactive concerts and long-term music projects in a wide variety of settings.

Tom is proud to be a practitioner for the charities Live Music Now and AMP, and has worked to help people with special educational needs and disabilities communicate and express themselves through music. On top of this Tom has a lot of experience working in PRU & EBSD school settings, and has delivered many projects within various care homes, with a particular focus on the benefits of music for those living with dementia.

Tom now works as a mentor to new musicians who are joining the Live Music Now scheme and runs training for musicians starting out on the scheme. Since achieving a Masters in Jazz performance from Leeds Conservatoire, Tom has been invited back as a guest lecturer, delivering a course on ‘Working With Children In Music’.
