Jonny is a York based guitar tutor who teaches all ages and abilities, either privately or in school settings and also provides rock-band tutoring. He has provided live performance session work playing acoustic guitar for pop singer Gareth Gates, also currently working closely with York-born artist and Producer David Lawrie both live and in the studio. Jonny offers private guitar tuition in the York area in the comfort of your own home, teaching electric, classical and acoustic guitar for all ages and abilities. He has been advanced D.B.S. checked and is a member of The Registry of guitar tutors (RGT)as well as being a York Music Hub approved tutor. From his time studying on the professional diploma course at BIMM Bristol Jonny consolidated his knowledge of rock and pop performance and was also able gain a real insight into how leading UK tutors Stuart Ryan (Guitar Techniques) and Jamie Hunt (Guitarist Magazine) delivered effective lessons, yielding results whilst making lessons enjoyable. As well as being a consummate performer and teacher of modern guitar styles, Jonny is also self taught to a high standard in solo classical and flamenco guitar and gives regular performances for Weddings and restaurants. He can offer classical guitar tuition up to grade 8. Jonny provides one to one and group classical guitar tuition at Wigginton primary (rated good by Ofstead) (9am-12) on Wednesdays and Scarcroft primary (rated outstanding by Ofstead) (12-3pm) in York through his private teaching business. In these schools Jonny offers one to one electric and classical guitar lessons and group classical guitar lessons and these are very heavily subscribed to in both. He also provides one to one tuition and rock-band tutoring in Burley Oaks and Ben Rhydding primary schools in the Ilkley area through “Learn to Rock” music tuition service. In the sessions the bands learn a range of cover material along with songwriting and working on performance skills. He has provided his band coaching and performance services in professional pit bands for Whitcliffe Mount performing arts Summer school productions of “We Will Rock You” and “Starlight Express.” Most recently he provided guitar for the Easingwold players production of “Our day Out” the Musical. Styles and techniques covered Blues, Pop, Classic Rock, Indie/Britpop, Progressive Rock, Metal, Classical/ Spanish guitar. Plectrum picking techniques (Alternate, sweep, economy, hybrid.) Legato playing and Tapping. Building chords and chord progressions Scales, Modes, Arpeggios, Super-imposition. Classical guitar fingerstyle techniques – rest stroke, free stroke, tremolo, Rasgueados. Music reading Rockschool / RGT electric guitar grades. Trinity guildhall Classical grades. Preparation for G.C.S.E and A level performance Exams.
