Hannah Crawford

Approved Tutor

Hannah Jayne Crawford I am a professional freelance performer, instrumental tutor and community musician based in York. I specialise as a Violin tutor but I also regularly teach Trumpet, Ukulele, Guitar, Viola and African Drumming. From my own background and studies I believe strongly in everyone’s right to quality music education and in its proven beneficial connection to emotional and cognitive development, especially at a young age. During my time as a violin tutor, my students have achieved a 100% pass rate up to grade 7 ABRSM. I am the assistant conductor for the Junior String orchestra at York Music Centre; I run the Musical Development course at Converge based at York St John University; I run monthly sessions working with nursery children and I am the assistant conductor for All Seasons community orchestra. I like to draw influences from a full spectrum of musical styles to best inform my playing and teaching. As a classical violinist, I play in a professional string quartet; I play fiddle for a local folk/bluegrass group which performs at festivals and folk weekends and have performed as a session player for stage shows and in local recording studios. I studied BA (Hons) Music at York St John University and went on to study MA Community Music at the University of York. Alongside my studies I was fortunate to lead and perform in various choirs, brass bands, big bands and drumming groups; all of which has enriched my knowledge of music. It is my passion to pass on this knowledge and to encourage the new generation of musicians to achieve their full potential. In my spare time I ride a motorcycle. My adventures have taken me to Croatia and Portugal.
