Patrick Scott was a teacher of English and drama, and Director of the Durham Sixth Form Centre, before moving into work as an education adviser in Cleveland County. In 1998, he was appointed Director of Education in Redcar and Cleveland, before moving to York where he was Director of Education and Leisure (2001 – 2005) and, finally, Director of Learning, Culture and Children’s Services (2005 – 2007). Since 2007, he has worked in a variety of roles as a consultant, providing leadership development programmes for senior leaders in children’s services and public health and supporting initiatives in education designed to reduce inequality. Although not a musician himself, he has always had a strong commitment to arts education. For a number of years, he served as a Trustee for the York Museums Trust. He is now Vice Chair of the Tees Valley Education Trust and a trustee for Project Mala, a York based charity providing education for children in the carpet weaving district of the Uttar Pradesh in India.
